Notes from Michelle, Summer 2021

WOW!!!! It is SO good to be vaccinated and back with my band. I am hoping we all took away something positive from this extraordinary last year and a half. For the first time in my adult life, I had a chance to stay in one place, organize everything in sight, as well as write quite a few songs. I missed my band and making music, but I have always been a person who looks for the lessons in all situations, good and bad. This was no exception…slow down, appreciate the small things, take more time to be home, pay attention to my physical, spiritual and emotional health and put less stress on myself when working in the studio.

I’ve met with a couple of my band members to work on several projects we have planned and we are going to start out “nice and slow” as Tina Turner would say. First I will spend some time in Costa Rica in July, where the warmest people and best coffee are, and then fly back to my hometown, Detroit, for a second time since I’ve been vaccinated, to spend more time with my family. In August, Graham, Jeremy, Will & our new drummer, Dan Schwartz, will join me in the studio to record the acoustic record that I had planned on making with the full band in April 2020. In September, I will finally be able to fly back to my beloved Paris, to see my friends, work on some music, and just sit in cafes soaking up the beauty of Paris.  I have missed it and my friends so much. My dear friend Celine, a born and raised Parisian, has taught me to “look up” if I want to see the real Paris, so that’s what I’ll do.

This fall, after I go to Hualalai to watch the whales migrate with friends I haven’t seen since before Covid, the whole band will get back together to start preparing for three exciting projects that we will record at Pine Mountain Studio after the New Year. Pine Mountain Studio is coziest in the winter months, and the boys and I are looking forward to being back together, making music again.

Unfortunately, our Annual Benefit Concert for Little Wishes will be postponed this year. We will look for a date when more people are comfortable being in closed spaces, maybe February 2022, around Valentine’s Day, since Little Wishes is all about love. Little Wishes will still get a big check to support their beautiful work, from 100% of all sales of my music, so thank you for supporting my music and this important organization.

I plan on going back to Paris in December, as well as Munich, and then spend the holidays with family & friends. I’ve heard that “if you love what you do, it’s not work”. It will be so wonderful to be back with my amazingly talented band and engineers. We have so much planned for the New Year. And spending time with the people I love is something I yearn for. I lost a lot of people I loved during Covid and know that time with loved ones is everything. I wish you a wonderful re-opening of your lives.

God bless,
